SodaStream Product Review
After standing on the sidelines for the past year or so, and watching the cool gadget known as a SodaStream take off, I FINALLY was able to get my hands on one to try! Thanks to the amazing folks at SodaStream, they provided me with a SodaStream Genesis kit and plenty of syrups to give this gadget a very thorough review. For the past 3 weeks I have drank nothing but homemade soda and sparkling beverages, and you know what…I LOVE this machine!
As of this writing, there are over 60 different flavors offered, including Country Time Lemonade, Ocean Spray Cranberry, Kool Aid and “knock your socks off” take-offs of national brand soda (you know…those ones in green or maybe brown cans). Anyway, more on those later. There’s also various models of the SodaStream available, but this review will focus on the Genesis model.
The SodaStream Genesis kit was very easy to set-up, and within 5 minutes of doing so, I had some very delicous-tasting, sparkling soda in my hands. The process of creating your flavored soda/sparkling beverage is simple:
- Fill-up your SodaStream bottle with cold water (tap or bottled)
- Add desired amount of carbonation to water
- Add your syrup flavor
Cleanup is pretty much non-existent, unless you spill some syrup (which happened to me twice). To cut-down on that chance of spilling syrup, or maybe getting it onto your hands/clothes, SodaStream has a new product for you to try…SodaStream Caps. These single-serve, recyclable capsules are placed onto your carbonated water bottle, and with a slight press downward they deliver the flavored syrup to your water pretty effortlessly. No fuss…No mess! I was provided a box of samples to try, as you’ll see below, and I loved using them.
Over the past couple of weeks I have tried countless flavors, and I must say the Dr. Pete and Mountain Mist flavors are my top favorites. Our son liked the Country Time Pink Lemonade, as well as the Cherry Kool Aid! What I LOVED most about the SodaStream flavors is that the amount of calories they contain are sometimes less than half of the National Branded Sodas. Here’s a “side by side” comparison of that National Brand Citrus Soda Vs. SodaStream Mountain Mist Flavor:
National Brand Citrus-Flavored Soda (8oz)
Total Carb/Sugars 29g
SodaStream Mountain Mist (8oz)
Total Carb/Sugars 8g
The difference is AMAZING! If you’d like to try the SodaStream for yourself, you can order a kit HERE if you’d like, or check them out at a local retailer, such as Best Buy, Bed, Bath & Beyond, Staples or Target. The syrup flavors run in the $5-$10 range and will save you a lot of money, when compared to purchasing multiple 12-packs of soda. Overall I was very impressed with my SodaStream Genesis System, and can give it nothing short of my highest rating. I’m sure you will agree too!
Happy Soda Making!
